Our Roots
SitterTree started in a college dorm room. Jody Stephenson, a sophomore at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia found babysitting was the perfect way to fund her best college life.
In between classes (and sometimes during them) Jody picked up all the babysitting gigs she could. The flexible income allowed her to graduate with minimum college debt - plus a trip to Europe.
Jody started sharing jobs with other Oglethorpe students, charging a small fee for her services, payable through the campus mailbox system. Students loved the service - and opportunity for flexible child care jobs. By the time Jody graduated, 10% of the campus was babysitting.
Word spread about Oglethorpe's child care source. Moms would leave a voicemail on Jody's dorm room landline with the details of their job. Jody would pass along the details to other students, who would pick up the jobs.
The Playgroup, as it was first known, was shared in mom groups around Atlanta as a "must have" for busy moms.
SitterTree continues to grow, but the vision remains the same: to provide an easy way to book and pay the best child care providers. Kids deserve nothing less.
