Church Children’s Sitter / Nursery Caregiver Position: Children’s Sitter / Nursery Caregiver Reports To: Children’s Ministry Director / Pastor Status: Part-Time / Volunteer on weekly Sunday Primary Purpose: To provide a safe, loving, Christ-centered, and nurturing environment for children while their parents or guardians participate in church services, meetings, or approved church activities. Key Responsibilities * Provide attentive and loving care for children entrusted to the church. * Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment at all times. * Supervise children continuously and never leave them unattended. * Follow the church’s child-safety and protection policies. * Engage children in age-appropriate activities, including Bible stories, songs, games, crafts, and learning activities. * Demonstrate Christian love, patience, kindness, and appropriate behavior toward every child. * Assist children with basic needs such as snacks, water, restroom needs, diapering, and comforting, according to church policy. * Maintain appropriate child-to-caregiver ratios. * Check children in and release them only to authorized parents or guardians. * Communicate promptly with parents/guardians regarding significant concerns, injuries, behavior, or other needs. * Keep the nursery/classroom clean and organized before and after use. * Report accidents, injuries, suspected abuse, safety concerns, or unusual incidents immediately to the appropriate church leader. * Work cooperatively with pastors, children’s ministry leaders, volunteers, and parents. * Participate in required training and church meetings related to children’s ministry and safety. Qualifications * Demonstrates a genuine love and concern for children. * Mature, dependable, responsible, and trustworthy. * Able to remain calm and patient when working with young children. * Supports the Christian beliefs, values, and mission of the church. * Previous childcare, nursery, teaching, or children’s ministry experience is preferred. * Must comply with the church’s background-check and child-safety requirements. * Must maintain appropriate professional and personal boundaries with children. Expected Character The Children’s Sitter should model: Love • Patience • Integrity • Compassion • Dependability • Self-Control • Servanthood Schedule The caregiver should arrive 15–30 minutes before the assigned service or activity, remain until all children have been safely released to their authorized parents/guardians, and assist with cleanup afterward. Important Church Safety Standard At least two approved adults should be present whenever children are being supervised, consistent with the church’s child-protection policy. Caregivers should never transport children alone or engage in inappropriate one-on-one situations with children. Performance Expectations The caregiver is expected to: 1. Be punctual and dependable. 6. Communicate concerns appropriately and promptly. 7. Represent the church positively and professionally. Position Summary: The Church Children’s Sitter serves children and families by providing safe, loving, dependable, and Christ-centered care that allows parents to participate confidently in worship and church activities.
