Question 2

What is the difference between a nanny and a babysitter in Harvard?

Accepted Answer

The main difference between a babysitter and a nanny is that a nanny provides consistent, long-term child care—often with a set schedule and additional responsibilities like carpooling or helping with school—while a babysitter offers occasional, short-term care, typically for a few hours while parents are away.

Question 3

What qualifications do I need to be a nanny in Harvard?

Accepted Answer

The most important qualification to be a nanny is knowing how to safely care for children. Younger children and infants require more experience and careful attention. Beyond basic care, it’s important to understand how children develop. This way, you can partner with your nanny family to provide a healthy and nurturing environment for the child.

Question 4

What is a typical day for a nanny in Harvard?

Accepted Answer

A typical day for a nanny in Harvard will vary depending on the ages of the children. Most days begin with breakfast, followed by a diaper change and a nap for infants. Toddlers may enjoy a hands-on activity, craft, or outside time. After washing up from playtime, you may serve a snack and read a book. For preschoolers, families may request that you take the child to a playdate, class, or library event. Most children will then be served lunch, followed by quiet time or an additional nap. Some families may ask you to complete light housework during naptimes. After, you may work with the children on basic learning—like colors, shapes, or numbers. After a second light snack, you might tidy the space and prepare for the parents' return home.
