Hello, my name is Mikaela Williams. I’m originally from Washington, D.C., and I’m currently a junior at Virginia Commonwealth University, where I’m pursuing a major in Early Childhood Education. As the oldest of six siblings, I’ve naturally grown into a role of responsibility and leadership from a young age, and that experience has fueled my passion for working with children and advocating for their growth and development. I am a proud African American woman dedicated to becoming an educator who not only teaches but also inspires and uplifts every child who walks into my classroom. My journey toward becoming a teacher began early—I started babysitting and working in childcare settings when I was just 16 years old, and I haven’t stopped since. Each experience has strengthened my belief in the power of education and deepened my commitment to creating nurturing, inclusive learning environments for young learners. Since my freshman year of college, I’ve had the opportunity to work as an intern year-round, balancing both academic responsibilities and real-world teaching experiences. During the academic year, I’ve interned at WolfTrap as an educational intern. My summer internships have provided me with even more in-depth experience in the field. I’ve interned at early childhood centers and summer enrichment programs in both Washington, D.C. and Virginia.
