How do I complete a background check?

All sitters must complete and pass a background check to apply to jobs on SitterTree. Background checks must also be renewed annually to continue booking jobs. For many sitters, completing a background check takes only a few minutes.

Why background checks are required

Background checks help sitters build trust with families and groups. Plus, they strengthen the SitterTree community. Once this step is complete, you’re almost ready to start booking jobs.

Start your background check

Log in to SitterTree
Select the Pass a background check to apply banner (Or, apply to a job and select Go to background check.)
Select Start my background check

Purchase your background check

Enter your card information
Select Purchase background check

Note: Your payment method must be a valid credit or debit card. Prepaid debit cards are not accepted.

Complete your background check through Checkr

You’ll be redirected to Checkr to complete your background check. On Chekcr:

Enter your personal information exactly as it appears on your government-issued ID
Follow the prompts and submit your background check

Double-check your information before submitting. Incorrect details may delay processing time.

After you submit

Many background check reports are returned within an hour, though processing times can vary.

You’ll receive an email from Checkr when your report is ready.
If your background check is clear, you’ll receive a background check badge on your SitterTree profile

What happens next

After submitting your background check, begin creating your payout account. You don’t need to wait for your background check results to complete the payout setup.

Completing both steps together helps avoid delays and keeps your approval process moving.

If there is an issue

If your background check requires additional information, is delayed, or cannot be completed as submitted, Checkr will email you with next steps.
