Are child care providers background checked?

SitterTree requires all child care providers to pass an annual background check through a third-party verification service’s website to access our platform.

Background check types

You can view background check details by going to a provider’s profile and selecting their background check badge. This shows the completion date and type of background check.

Basic Background Check

Child care providers earn this badge by passing a third-party background check that includes a social security trace, global watchlist search, sex offender search, and national criminal check for all known aliases.

Premium Background Check

Child care providers earn this badge by passing a third-party background check that includes a social security trace, global watchlist search, sex offender search, national criminal check, and county-level checks for all known aliases.

Background check results

Background check results cannot be shared due to consumer protection laws.

Providers will have a background check badge on their profile indicating they have passed a background check within the last year. You can also view the completion date.

Requesting additional background checks

Your group should request providers you hire to complete additional background checks for your screening purposes.

To communicate your background check requirements:

  • Include the requirement in your job description
  • Use chat to confirm completion in advance of your job
