Are child care providers background checked?

All child care providers must pass an annual background check to access the SitterTree platform. Many groups require additional background checks as part of their own vetting process.

Background check types

You can view background check details by going to a provider’s profile and selecting their background check badge. This shows the completion date and type of background check.

Basic Background Check

Child care providers earn this badge by passing an annual third-party background check that includes a social security trace, global watchlist search, sex offender search, and national criminal check for all known aliases.

Premium Background Check

Child care providers earn this badge by passing an annual third-party background check that includes a social security trace, global watchlist search, sex offender search, national criminal check, and county-level checks for all known aliases.

In addition to background checks:

  • Providers verify their identity by uploading a government-issued ID and completing a live selfie
  • Profiles are reviewed by a SitterTree Support specialist before approval

Background check results

Background check results cannot be shared due to consumer protection laws.

Providers will have a background check badge on their profile indicating they have passed a background check within the last year. You can also view the completion date.

Requesting additional background checks

You may request providers complete an additional background check.

To do this:

  • Include the requirement in your job description
  • Follow up in chat after booking to confirm completion before the job
